I'm running 265-70-16's and they fit fine. Suck out the gas mileage though!

im running 265/75/16 with no issues on my 02

I know it's been posted on here that 265 70 16's will work on a 3rd gen with stock wheels and no lift, I am not worried about the height of the tire and rubbing when turning the wheels, The part that I am curious about is the clearance between the sidewall and part of the steering. (from above the tire and can reach over and down barely get a finger between this space) Now with 235's I only have about 7/8 of an inch clearance(roughly 20mm) going to a 265 will add 30mm tire width(15mm each side). Doesn't this seem close to running a tire 5mm away from something? might just settle for 255's but I really, really love the look of 265's and like to go as wide as possible.

We are running 265/75/16s on a stock 03 and only time we have every had a rubbing problem is while turning with the frt end compressed or while bouncing through ruts with the tires turned. Even then the rub is not noticeable in the cab. Only knew it because I just happened to see it while I was washing it.

thanks for the info, I'm not really concerned with a little rubbing, I am just concerned with the sidewall hitting that steering/suspension part cutting into the sidewall. I guess I will try them out. I got a line on some 265 70 Michelin LTX's for a great deal and it seems worth the risk.
