Looking for reasonable prices shocks for replacements on 2wd 99 XLT 5.0 . I'd like to do it before I leave in 2 weeks.

Any suggestions ?

And what's the deal with that 5th shock on the rear end ??

Thanks,
Wayne

you can remove that 5th shock, doesn't do much.

If you're looking for budget replacements then I suggest the Gabriel VSTs. They're inexpensive and almost as good as much more expensive shocks.

I second the vote for the VST's. I just got mine 10 days ago and I love them so far. Great value shock.

Cool....I'll see what they're running over at the local Pep boys. Thanks:D

FIFTH SHOCK ON REAR

The "extra" shock on the rear end is to reduce/eliminate driveline vibrations. Why it's only on the four doors is beyond me. You can take it off and you might get some vibes but one thing for sure......if you lift your truck and the shock is at a steep angle the ride will be stiff as hell. The shock is suppose to be near horizontal so that up/down movement won't affect it so much as lateral movemen will.

$22 each for the VST's......@ Pep Boys ;)

And thanks for the 5th shock deal. Dunno what to do as a replacement....prolly spend more for the stock replacement. Oh well. I'll see if Pep Boys has a replacement lined up for that as well.

If anything, I'll lower this ride being 2WD. I'll prolly buy a beeter truck to go with my beeter 76 Plymouth Valiant. I love that pig.....slant 6 that won't quit.
