Allaa', if I had the nice traction control in my '04 I probably would have gone the truetrac/torsen route like you did. I know they made it available in the '05 models but I am not sure if it was a standard option.

A locker will oversteer in turns if too much throttle is applied (causes the locker to engage) but at least in my experience so far I have not seen this, most likely because my truck is tall enough that I let off the throttle in curves anyway to reduce body roll.

Had your truck been used in one of the demonstrations in the videos I think it would have performed just as well as the locked vehicle due to the way the traction control and the truetrac/torsen limited slip units lock up.

Andvance Trac (traction control) was made standard in 05 on all the explorers, but was optional on late 02 up to 04 models.

So far the help is great! I'm still going to get a locker on my ex on of these days, as I know and knew that was the way to go.

Thank you guys for the info regarding AdvanceTrac, I thought it was stranded on 3rd & 4th gen.

regarding mileage. because of all mods I had in Ursula, now I get only 10-12 mpg combined

because I drive in WOT (Wide Open Throttle) all the time :D

Yes, the "right foot weight reduction mod" is one of the cheapest fuel economy mods you can do. Cheapest, but not always the easiest :D

X2. That mod lasted untill a geo metro beat me off the line at a stop light

For me it lasted until I realized my V6 has no guts. lol :p: I could use 4.10's on a stock Ex. I loved the 4.10's in a Ranger FX4 I drove. Nice fast acceleration on something with 30's. :)

4.10 also increases the load capacity of the truck if accompanied with suspensions upgrade

and due to decreasing load upon engine and transmission effect. 4.10 help in extending the life of the truck if accompanied with Ronin8002's "right foot weight reduction mod"

This a video clip of my truck with open diff and brake traction control

Trust me guys. with adequate ground clearance, proper trans gear selection (highest gear possible in low range) and brake traction control, the explorer is unstoppable :D

Your truck was stock in this vid? I just shot a vid of my brake traction control in action.. well my buddy did. I'l ask him if he can post it up later.

not really stock, at the time it had only Truxxx kit and magnaflow cat-back

King try to tackle an obstacle with deference trannry gear selection, you'll find that with low range 2nd & 3rd the 5R55S have a hill start assistant system (the transmission keep the car stationary) also you will find that brake traction control will be more active.

try and give us your feed back

Well after driving around on the new gears for about a week now it looks like there is a nice mileage gain to be had from regearing with larger tires.

I'll be the first to say that 1 week is not necessarily the ideal length of time to confirm mileage mods, but the initial results look promising.

Previously driving the same, mostly highway, 50 mile round trip to and from work every day, I was averaging about 17.8 MPG each week with 265/75/16 tires and 3.55 gears

With the new 4.10 gears and the same tires I'm now getting about 19.5 MPG driving the same route over the same period.

Great to hear James! I'm going to wait and regear my truck before I lift it. I just can't absorb the crappy gas mileage.
