Ive had my explorer for about 2 months now and im ready to lift it. I got my 4 12's in and my panasonic headunit. I know audio but nothing about lifting. I want to lift it with Shackles and AAL and a TT up front with the 3" body lift. I cant take care of the AAl and Shackles and TT...just the body lift i dont wanna touch. I also dont wanna get charged an arm and a leg to get this put on @ a local offroad shop. Can u just let me know your thoughts...whether i could do it with a couple friends or maybe someone in GA would like to lend a helping hand....or do i take it to the shop and spend about 500...cuz if i can save 500 thats more i can do to my X...thanx !!

PS: For anyone who asks....I will run 33's so...

From what everybody here says a body lift is not hard at all to put on. If you can do and AAL and shckles you should be able to do the body lift in a weekend. Im also sure someone in the Georgia area would be willing to help if you ask them to.

a bl isnt that hard ecspecially if you have a friend or 2 to help. but it is time consuming and most likely will get you fustrated. so it just depends on whats worth more to ya, the 500 bucks or no hassle. i chose no hassle and had it done by a shop for $350 and they did an excellent job. also remember that if you do it yourself you have alot of people here to help you through it if you run into problems. goodluck

thanx for the input guys.....i like NO HASSLE....but id also like ot save 400 bonez ya know...oh well we will see....

hey tyka,

i dont know anything about systems, but i have the same setup you want, 3" BL, shackles, TT.

i did the body lift myself. it was the first thing i have done to any car besides installing a pushbar. it is easy and you will save money and it will probably be done a lot better than any shop (cuz its YOUR truck and you care, shop doesnt care as much). besides raising the rear bumper i did the whole thing in a day with minimal tools. actually to tell you the truth, the shackles were almost just as hard.

i need a system. how bout we help each other out. you can email me at: james.fitzgerald@villanova.edu

your going to have to buy the Performance Accessories Ranger body lift because they dont make one for the Explorers. they give you more stuff than you need. off the top of my head, this is all you have to do:

add extensions to ground wires (cake)

mount raidator lower with brackets (prob the trickiest part)

add steering extension (cake)

lift body and add spacers and bolts (cake w/ a good breaker bar)

BE CAREFUL at all times of the brake lines (which you have to disconnect from various points)

the front bumper bracket fits

the only hard parts are that you need two bolts of a certain size that doesnt come with the kit (you only get 2, you need 4 for the explorer). a good trick is to call where you ordered it from after you receive it and tell them that the 2 bolts that are suppose to come with the kit, didnt. that way you will have 4 total.

the other hard part is raising the rear bumper. i just didnt worry about it till after i was done with the rest of the lift, cuz theres no rush to get it done. but if you want to know, you need to get brackets made up to lift it, and you have to cut part of the frame and part of the bumper to deal with clearance issues.
