I just put 31's on my "97 X and it looks great . No rubbing or clearance problems at all . I also changed the speedo gear from a 19 tooth to an 18 tooth . This seem right given the difference in tire circunference. My old tires were 265 -75 -15 "s but I don't know my axle ratio .
As a rookie X owner did I do everything okay ?

i think he means 31 inch tires

ok ;) cause i've seen 40 inch rims on a Land Cruiser but i've never seen 31 inch rims on an explorer

i wanna see that!! but allan do you mean 235-75-15 cause i dont think that they make the 265 size for a 15" rim. but everything seems right, got any pics?

alright, the picture seems to be lost on the page I originally saw the 40's on but here's the link. it still shows the same Land Cruiser with 26's. origionally it showed the land cruiser with 26's and 40's but the 40's pic seems to be lost.

Ah , sorry guys , it really shows what a rookie I am ! I meant 31 inch tires not rims! Is this the right speedo gear ?

Boy , I must be drinking the cough syrup again. My old tires were 235-75- 15's . I'll get it right yet !

i had 265/70/16 on my eb wihtout any problems. the diameter was 30.6. im sure i could have put 275/70/16 wihtout any problems. tire retail shops usually wont sell bigger than stock tires to explorers unless you have an eb. i figured they make the eb different than xlt and ltd. any ideas?

uh, i don't think the Eddie Bauers are much different except having more fancy interior and stuff. I don't think the explorer itself is any different so I don't know why they wouldn't sell it to an XLT

i dont know either, but when i called a few shops like firestone, good year, etc, they said they couldnt sell me 265/70/16. then i mentioned i had an eddie bauer and they said they could.. wierd

I have 265/75/R16's made by BFG the new KM Mud-Terrains. No rub or anything. They look killer, and give me an additional lift. Check it out in my pictures! :bounce:

if u have a 3 inch lift.. u should have gone with bigger tires.. but nonetheless.. ride looks good

At the time of my modifications, i dont think they made an actual lift for my ride, unless you used lift from a Ranger, now I think there is one made by Superlift. I havent gotten to that yet. I got my height from add-a-leafs, and torsion twist, Overall 3"..... I think I got all that info right. My boyfriend did most of the work, and I helped. PLus I think any bigger tires, they would rub.

Hey Allan, I noticed in your first post you were interested in finding out your final drive gear ratio, check out http://www.users.qwest.net/~ntrpriz/Axle.htm you get the code of the driver's side door panel, and match it up with the code on the site.
