I read a persons profile and I found that he fit 33 x 10.5's on his 93 explorer with just a 3 inch body lift. Is it the width of the tires that rub? I have the skyjacker 2 inch lift and planing a 2 inch body lift, so i should have plenty of clearance? also for 12.5 inch wide tires i have to get new 8 or 10 inch rims with the right amount of backspacing right :bounce: im really excited :banghead: Cant wait :)

Jay,
I can't address the rubbing question for your year Explorer, but I can tell you that I have run both 33x10.5/16 and 32x11.5/16s on my stock 16x7 wheels with no problems. I have a 2" lift. I would recommend 8" or 10" wide wheels for 12.5" wide tires. The 8" wheels would probably give you more fender coverage. Also the 8" wheels will put less stress on your wheel bearings. For my 95 I need less than 4.5" backspacing to eliminate rubbing on the front sway bars.

so you can run 32x12.50 on a 15x8 with a 3 inbody lift?

Bit T yea you can, watch for rubbing. Ur in MD right??? check out the thread in serious explorations about md, or peters mill run, were going there in october, later bro

other considerations

Remember what you are doing to the tire when you go wider. If you use this as a daily driver, and encounter rain and snow frequently....I say stay with the narrow wheel. If you go wide, you're going to have hydroplaning problems.

do you know what the largest width tire you can go with on stock rims is? for a 93 eddie bauer

not sue

not sure, but I recall a post stating not to go wider than 12.50 on a 8" rim, so I'd say 11.50 on a 7" would be fine.

I run 285/75r16s which are 11.2" wide tread on stock 16x7 rims. Many here can vouch that I have used them under fairly demanding circumstances on some pretty interesting trails. I have never had a bead separation while aired down (though I don't like to go below 15 lbs and prefer 18-20 lbs) or any trouble of any sort. I'll go bigger and wider on the next set of tires. I don't think a 11.5" wide tire will have any problem on a 7" rim, as long as the tire is a decent one to start with.

While it is not recommended by so called "tire professionals" I'd say that you can safely run up to a 12 1/2" wide tire on a 7" wheel. I have 8 of them and I have never had any problems either with wear or fit.

as things are i am thinking 3 inch body lift with 32x11.50x15 either BFgoodwrinch M/T's or Radial TSL boggers

I just got some BFG allterrain t/a's yesterday and they are great. they are 31/10.5 on the stock rims and no lift. i have only slight rubbing on the bottom edge of the plastic well at the outside wheel. does anyone think this is a problem. if so how should i fix it? just cut a piece of the well off? i love these tires and how firm and responsive they are. they are also alot quieter than those nasty duelers i had. also what pressure should i be running at to get the best tread wear? Oh i almost forgot....i got some of those new monroe reflex shocks and they are awsome!!! they reduce roll/sway and now i only hear the bumps instead of hitting my head on the headliner. tuesday im getting my radius arm bushings replaced by ford. is this a good idea? with all the problems with them should i use a stock part or is there an upgrade and if so can i replace these myself? well im off to replace the brake pads catch you guys(and gals) later.......if you cant tell im extreamly happy about all the new parts on my truck...I wont have to imagine an horse pulling my truck anymore in order to feel ok with it(cause it rode like a covered wagon)

i have 33x12.50s on my factory 7 inchers and tehy work ok i generally run aroun 8-10 psi when in the rocks and i havent had any probs YET!! the tires are goodyear at/s

I'd also like to hear some advice on tire pressure for 31x10.5 on the stock 15x7 wheels.

Im runing 29 PSI with mine,a nd on the trail about 24 or so.Same tires and rim's
