35" MT/R's On The Way; I'm Committed Now

GJarrett,

Let me know if you are going to keep your fender flares when you trim. I have the flares as well, but am trying to figuer out a way to trim the fenders enough to fit 35s and keep the flares on. I have some ideas if you want to do the same. Good luck!

Discount tire is great! They have always come through for me. And they will match any prices.

Xplorer - you have 4" superlift, and 3" body and you can't get 35's on there? I can get them on mine with minimal triming with just 5.5" of lift. just gotta put them on and see where they rub.

Oh what a difference tires can make

Heck yes they are rubbing, LOL.

I finally got them on last Saturday while visiting my mom in Dallas for the holidays. When I get back to SC I'll have to figure out how to get the flares back on to hide my very-amatuerish hack job on my front fenders. :p

The Explorer is filthy and this is a basic photo but I wanted to post the result as soon as I got them on, so you'll have to use your imagination to visualize it clean and with the gold running boards and front flares on. Is this too much tire for the lift, or do you think it looks as tough as I do?

I Like It :smoke: :D

Looks good Gerald. Looks like you're gonna have monster rubbing though. From what I can see, you may have problems in the front all the way around, including the front bumper; as well as in the rear under compression. While flexing out the rear you may be ok, but you wont be if both sides compress at the same time, pushing the tires straight up instead of up and in.

Um, I could hear you coming down the road before and turning, hope you fix all that ;)

Anyway, good luck and it looks great!

Looks great, but how does it drive? You do some extreme off-roading, it'll be interesting to see how it fares. I like it with the flares myself.

Wow Gerald, you have gotten yourself into a mess this time :D I really hope you can fit those front flares back on.

Good luck and BTW it looks awesome!

Gerald I love the new look! Tires and Wheel combo looks great! :D

I like the look of the non-flared front end of it... ;)

Say... I had 33s with 3 inch of lift. would that make it possible for 35s on 5 inch lift? :D The 33s were exactly 33.7 inchs. So that makes me hopeful and I have major trimming now.

Looks awesome Gerald. Can't wait to see it in person.

Its about time you joined us :p

Looks good. Good luck with getting rid of rubbing. . . and then with keeping that front end in working order

Yeah, Jefe, you've been wearing out hubs and stuff, right?

And to everyone commenting on the rubbing problem, I have employed a very effective "ghetto fix" until I can get around to carving out more stuff inside the fenderwells.

hubs, cv's, tie rod ends, ball joints, rack & pinion. . .you name it, it wears much faster with 35's. Its still more annoying than expensive though. I dread pulling apart the front end every time, and I think I could do it blindfolded now. Its about time to find a daily driver to replace the Ex.

Jefe, how long have you been running on the 35" tires and what size wheels do you have them mounted on?

*cough**cough* Dana 44. HEY WHO SAID THAT! :D

Hey what size lift do you have on your X to fit those 35's? I am getting 35's from a friend for free in 2 months so i need to figure out what I will need for them. Thanks!

BigPimpin,

You should at least get a 5.5 or 6" suspension lift and will probably need either a 2 or 3" body lift also, or lots of trimming.
