Hi,

I have a '96 X and this one unfortunately doesn't have a 3rd brake light.

Is this easy to add to the rear, or is it integrated in the hatch (hence I would need a new hatch)? I am looking for a stock solution, not one of those after-market universal add-ons.

Thanks,

Rempco

You would have to show us what your hatch looks like. To make it look stock is most likely going to be a very expensive project. I would look into getting one of those ones you could mount inside your rear glass and have it shine through, like on most sedans. You would not see anything different from the outside.

You would need a new hatch (if you want to go the stock route). Check out this pic of mine without the light in it:

Ok, thanks, that's clear. I need to mod my hatch to make the stock brakelight fit, so that's a no-go. Too bad

Keep in mind also that the high-mount brakelamp will run you a pretty penny also--- although my brakelight is stock, it recently burned out the bulbs and it works off-on whenever it wants to. The cost for a total/new replacement of the light runs from $200-$300 USD. Adding to that the installation... unless you do it yourself.
