I am new to this forum but I'm glad you are here. I have a '99 XLT with a 4.0 V6 that will not run if the temp drops below 40 degrees. I have a scan tool but the codes only reveal "lean on left bank" and "lean on right bank." No other codes. Interestingly enough there is no problem at 45 degrees. The engine starts and runs at 45 degrees without incident. But temps below 45 causes severe stalling. I have checked the idle control valve and find nothing wrong. Also occasionally there is a pinging noise at idle something like a lifter click but higher pitched like a spark knock. This is very intermittent but I am suspicious that all these problems are in someway tied together.

thanks for taking the time to read and any help will be greatly appreciated.

do a search, "O-ring intake".. I think you may find your answer. If not come back here and we can direct you.

Yep, that sounds like it

The OOM12 sounds like the culprit. I called my dealer and their price is $46. I can only imagine what this forum has saved me in diagnosis since I had already called the dealer to make an appointment when I did a search and found ya'll (NC). ONe question though, the plastic pencil shaped object. Is that some sort of pressure control? If not what is it?

Thanks again for all the help.

I was gonna say you have classic symptoms of bad O-rings. When they are doing the 00M12, you should also have them do the 01M01 work - timing chain cassettes and camshaft tensioners. Those are cause of your "lifter tick", and if you don't get them replaced, they will grenade on you and fill the insides of your engine with little plastic pieces (if they haven't already broken and done that).

Tim

What pencil shaped object are you referring to? Was it in a picture in a particular thread?
