4.0 Exhaust Clip Thread !

I'm going to put on a mild 2.50 inch cat back with either the Flowmaster Super 50 or 70 series for my daily driver. I want the power gains without the commuting headache.

I'm brand new to the forum, I just started about 5 minutes ago. I have a 1998 explorer 2 door. I used to have a chevy Colorado with a flow master super 44 on it, and I loved the sound of it. This explorer has a dual in single out stock muffler and I can't seem to find a flow master super 44 with dual in and single out, I was wondering if a single in dual out would work if I just reversed it with the dual out connecting to the dual in and the single in connecting to the single out.

No, running a flowmaster in reverse will really hurt flow, and probably drone really bad. Look in to reversible mufflers like cherry bomb vortex or magnaflow.

Just an opinion question for anyone with the knowledge, I am pulling out the stock muffler on a 1998 Explorer 4.0 V6 SOHC but keeping everything else from the cats back and going with Thrush glasspack(s). I can do this two possible ways:

1) using a 2-1/4 inch dual input to 2-1/4 output y-pipe in front of the new muffler to connect the cats to a single glass pack and then out to the stock exhaust.

or

2) use the same y-pipe, but mounted behind two glass packs to connect my mufflers to a single 2-1/4 in exhaust. (which is probably getting a tip on it later, whole other story).

I want to keep a single exhaust so I don't lose power and have back pressure problems, but at the same time I was unsure if having a second glasspack is going to produce any noticeable performance or sound differences. I haven't been able to find anything online so far about the difference between 1) and 2).

Any input would be appreciated, and when I'm finished I'll post a video.

Cheers.

Running two mufflers of any kind will make it quieter.

exhaust

i am new to this forum so am not sure if this is the place for my question.
I wanted to put a magna flow stainless steel exhaust on my 2000 explorer, 4x4, four door with a 4.0 SOHC
it appears that magna flow only has these for 2002 and later
this exhaust is for a pre runner i am making
Is anyone aware of an alternative that will fit this car?

Exhaust Goals

I meant to share this video I found on youtube a couple of months ago. I don't know if it's already on the site. I just want to say this is the sound I am going for, especially since I plan on supercharging as this guy did. His exhaust sounds great imo (keep in mind it's in the garage though).
It is the SOHC with 2.5" piping and he provided me with the parts numbers: 2x MagnaFlow 59956 Cats, MagnaFlow 12468 Muffler, JBA 1674S-1 Headers

(turn up bass on speakers)

Well ladies and gentlemen, Ive got MORE clips to add! Well, story on the first clip. So I take my truck in to get a tailpipe welded up. I had a Flowmaster Original 40 dumped with a highflow cat. Well.....I got the tip put on. 3 days later, it fell off while driving. Yes, thats right. FELL OFF. Don't ask how...I have no idea? Crappy clamps he used? Anyway, contacted lawyer and BBB on that one. Heres a clip of running just the offroad Y pipe, no cats, no nothin

Next is what I did after the fact. I went to a shop owned by a friend I knew. Well he welded that muffler back up (after I got it off a busy road) to the offroad Y pipe. He said to keep the cat off since the tail pipe will muffle it. (I had the cat on to muffle th dump. Tree huggers, go away). I then had mandrel-bent 2.5" pipe ran to the rear from the flowmaster and to a two-tipped-tip. Below is a clip of my pulling out of my driveway, driving down the street and parking. I love this exhaust. As you can see, it gets loud until you reach about 50 MPH and it shuts up (unless you get on it). Tell me what you think!

EDIT: I just noticed youtube downscaled the quality a lot! Sorry, the original video had a lot more light in it. I hope you get the idea....Pulled out of drive way. Went on neighborhood road. Stopped, turned onto main road. Turned into parking lot, parked, revved. :)

would like to get rid of the back cats too, what about check engine lights ?
