4.0 Exhaust Clip Thread !

The whole problem is the fact that it's a v6. Never gonna get the same rumble as the 5.0L would, but I figure as long as I can get it to sound good but not be ricey I'm happy. And from what I've seen most people go with flowmasters anyways so there's nothing wrong with having something different. Not having cab noise is SO nice. When I first put the system together I was only able to get the x-pipe on the one night. So the next day I'm driving to school with open exhaust no mufflers right underneath the passengers seat. HOLY SH*T was that loud in the cab. But now with the new engine and tips it sounds deeper at idle, louder when I'm accellerating normally, and then sounds like yer going like a bat out of hell when you punch it WOT. Will get an updated video tomorrow

Cool, I look forward to checking it out. I may do a road test vid on mine soon also. I just need to break it in some.

So, what's the consensus on the best sounding muffler for the 4.0 OHV? Been looking through this thread all day, but still can't decide. Leaning towards the Cherrybomb pro, but a little afraid it may sound ricey at higher RPM's, and I am really looking for a low, grumbling sound.

I'm really liking the Magnaflow so far...it has the low grumble, without being to loud at higher rpm's I think your talking about. I've never had any experience with the Cherybombs...Good luck! I went through the same thing a few weeks back. lol.

I had the magnaflow on my ohv. Only lasted a few weeks before I got rid of it for being too ricey. The pro had a better sound with my set up. I did have the rear cat hollowed out so that probably had an effect on the sound..

Ricey? Really? It's still a V6, but mine doesn't sound that way at all with the Magnaflow and 2.5 pipe with a 3 inch tip...Both cats are still in tact though. To each his own I guess on how it sounds. I'm just glad it's not too loud inside the cab, like some systems I've had in the past.

I really wanted to like it, but it just got too loud and ricey on me. I did have the 14" body magnaflow though. My setup was 2.5" cat back with a 3" tip. Like I said, I tried to like it, but as it broke in, it just didn't sound right. The first few weeks it sounded good, but then it just got bad.

Okay, Now you have me a little worried...I've only had mine for about 3 weeks, but it does sound better now, then it did when it was first installed to me. I hope it doesn't get much louder than it is now... I think it's just right.

That's what I'm afraid of. Sometimes a muffler will sound great for the first month, have that nice low rumble, then they start sounding like those watermelon cannons on the ricers.

You wouldn't happen to have a video of how that muffler sounds on your truck would you?

I had a magnaflow on my old ranger('83 2.8 v6), sounded good. No cat due to it being stopped up.

My X has a dronemaster.... it sounds good for around town, but after a trip 10hrs one way a few months back, it is decided that it must go.

So that flowmaster sounds good other than the drone? The most I really drive mine is about 3 hours, and that's only a few times a year (usually take the car for long drives). So I could put up with some droning for that good low sound.

Yes, mine is dumped at the axle, so I'm sure that has a lot of everything to do with the drone.

It sounds good on the inside, there isn't much for outside noise... I've had the chance to hear it while others drove it.

Do you know which model of Flowmaster you have? Sorry if this has been answered before

I got bored and was just interested in removing the resonator to see the difference. For now, it's just cut off past the muffler. Sounds good. Not really much louder but definitely deeper. I may add a turn down to it in the near future if I don't put the tailpipe back on.

I don't think I have to worry about CO levels in the cab since its a good bit back from the cab and under the bed but I'll run by the firehouse and get my buddy to help me check for CO levels.

^ There ya go! Mine def got louder and deeper without the resonator, then again my muffler is under the passenger area where yours is under the bed. You have the dynomax right?

I really like the way the super turbo sounded. Deeper sound is only better
