I know there are several nice write ups about changing the upper and lower intake and valve cover gaskets on this site. But I came across another decent one. Thought I'd put up the link:

I wish it still existed somewhere...

Oh damn, that was a great link! It what I used to do mine.

SOHC, But I'll still take a look. Thanks for sharing!

When I did my Job 2 SOHC O-rings (one piece intake manifold) I just kept unbolting anything that was in my way until it came off. I had to buy special long torx sockets to be able to reach through the access holes provided in the plastic intake. I learned the Job 2 intake only uses 4 bolts to hold the manifold in place (although there are still 6 threaded holes in the heads) and the O-rings are much fatter than those used on the Job 1 engines and probably didn't need to be changed. I still need to replace the upper and lower O-rings on my Job 1 SOHC. I have the O-rings, just not the ambition during the summer heat.

I did both upper and lower intake manifold gaskets on my 97 Explorer SOHC yesterday It was a hot day in Georgia, but I took my time. Took most of the day, but it wasn't that difficult. Wrestling with all of the hoses and such on the upper was the pain in the butt. I found this youtube video that helped a lot. -> [Lost Video]

I did tear a hose that I have to replace which was a bummer, but it's a pretty old truck.

Good Luck!

I did a similar thing what Koda did - just removed stuff until I got to the gaskets. I did upper and lower and it resolved my hard start issues. I also took numerous pix with my cell phone cam as I removed things. I also used some painters tape to wrap and ID cables and hoses that come off. Not a really hard job if you approach it systematically.

Yeah with that kind of work I just start taking things off, but I make a list of the order that I took things off, lay parts out on a table, bench or cart in that order, and notes for each item where applicable. That helps to avoid forgetting something then having to disassemble some of what you've already put back together to get things in the right order.

Anyway I think this is a working link to the PDF file you guys were looking for:

If the link goes dead in the future, PM me including the topic link where people need it, or with this new forum update I guess a PM is clicking the username link then "Start a conversation" link in the popup.
