the v8 didnt seem all that much more powerfull?!? are you kidding? did you stick your foot in that v8? it gets to 60 in just under 7 seconds... your v6 takes over 9... i find it hard to believe you didnt notice a difference lol. Also the v8 makes almost 100 horses more than the v6. and an extra 70 ft/lbs... personaly id take the V8 every time over the v6 having owned and driven both.

It's possible that the particular V8 that he drove had something wrong with it. The 1st Explorer that I drove with a 3v V8 was way down on power compared to the Mountaineer that I have now. Something was up with it - my 98 Mounty with the SOHC would have smoked it.
