4.0 Or 4.6

And if you look around you will see the milage difference is 1mpg between the 6 and V8, thats what sold me to the V8

mine has never slipped, the tranny is used in the f150's i think also so they must be beefed up alittle more.

Around town if you are EASY on the throttle the V8 will get around 15mpg (I've seen as low as 12.5mpg with a heavy foot and -30*f for a week). Highway has always been 19+mpg with my 4.6L mountaineer w/3.73 gears, even seen a 20.5mpg tank with 3 people and 300# of stuff in the back with the cruise set at 75mph. A relative has a 4.0L explorer and when we've gone on trips together both our rigs are with in 1mpg either way (more often then not I get better mileage)

According to the computer I got 18.7 mpg on my last tank. That was all commuter miles with no long interstate trips. I was getting about 17.5 mpg but I just had a brake job done and found out that I had a caliper that was sticking. It has went up about 1 mpg since I had it replaced. I ran a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through it recently too.

Mine is a 4.0 with the 3.73.
