Yea, I think my 91 has about 50RWHP! LOL! My truck is such a TERD.

i have a lot of miles on my x...over 125,00....what could i do to my engine, besides replacing it and paying a lot of money, to get the engine running good and looking good. Also waht's the best engine to swap, if it comes to that, for a 91-94 explorer

thanks

thanks for the help guys. but can someone give me the name of a company that sells superchargers for my 96 explorer xlt v6 w/ 4.0L. i just want to know how much it is going to cost me and if they even make one for my truck. every site i have gone o has nothing for the 95-96 era of explorers. and if the do its for the v8 not the v6 or its for the 5.0L and not the 4.0L. thanks

*dragging another thread back from extinction*

Ok, I was all set to try a Comp cam and port and polish Shelby's heads when I rebuild my engine soon, then I see that you lose low end torque apparently??? My goal is to improve torque, not Hp, as I need low end for rock crawling. I'm told porting the intake and matching the gaskets up helps greatly.. Anyone have any advice???

It's true, porting can kill low end torque while giving you more HP at the top end. Port matching (gasket matching) shouldn't hurt your low end and should give you a slight increase in top end.

chip

Hey i was wondering if you were intrested in hypertech chip for your explorer?

the 410 comp cam is what you want for a sronger torque curve. Remember Delta-cam rockers are well suited for the upgrade, you will need 5.525" pushrods for the delta cam rocker arms and the comp cam. You will need 5.550" length pushrods if you use the stock or equivilent rocker arms. That is of course, you dont deck your heads or do very minimal decking (.0001, ten-thousands of an inch wont effect it)

Porting the 4.0 heads and lower intake will help tremendously with both torque and hp. You probably will be happy atleast porting the lower intake. I feel the 4.0 isnt lacking too much in the power department, than more so a broad RPM range. The cam will help that. The 410 cam redlines at 4800, compared to 4200 stock. 422 cam redlines at 5200. Both the 410 and the 422 use the same length pushrods, but the 422 requires dual valve springs. Although, it wouldnt hurt to use dual valve springs with the 410 cam.

good luck. You can always up the compression to gain a substantial amount of power
