4.0L Swap with a 5.0L in a 98 Sport....

Ok i got ur point, now do you think with an explorer 5.0 i could use majority of the 88-93 stang parts on it.

Would i be able to get a good amount of HP out of it b/c i'm looking to work it close to 600hp?

Possible?

Anything is but if the parts are available.......

is there anyother mustang 5.0 besides the 88-93 that could possible fit??

Did they even make a 5.0 any other year or is the explorer 5.0 the only way 2 go?

I just want speed.....

Hey Pete what would be the point for all that hassle. there are two aspects involved. one is DIS ignition vs. distributor, and the other one is that the mustang front accessories would allow you the proper clearances to mount a charger made for a mustang and save alooooot of money there plus also having the option to choose which one you want from all the kits available for them. All i got to say is Kenne Belle twin screw supercharger for the mustangs would be sooooooooo awesome. for that reason alone while i am doing all the other modifications go the extra mile and get the engine with the mustang accessories and you will have alot more versatility. if this guy really wants serious horsepower then he wont be needing the gt-40p heads or intake for long, so i would not even consider them as a real benefit in this case. If i was doing it i would make the engine with the mustang front accessories fit. cheaper in the long run and just more versatile too.

Yes, the 94-95 mustang engine, which I have mentioned above is a 5.0L. Same block and heads as the 88-93, just has a shorter accessory drive. Many people do not like the EEC IV/V hybrid, so I would recommend the following if you want distributor:

94-95 (SN95) mustang engine complete, then use the 88-93 wireharness and computer. That would fit in the engine bay, and have potential to use the 94-95 mustang superchargers. Vortec, Paxton., Powerdyne, KB, etc..

If I were doing it however, I would use an Explorer engine and the Explorer EEC-V processor / wiring. This would be DIS however. I would then swap on a set of SN95 mustang accessories, have the trigger wheel from Explorer damper fit to mustang damper and be on my way. Reason - DIS is more accurate and if in the 600HP arena, I would be having a custom chip burned for fuel anyhow, at which time, they can setup ignition as well.

One note on the Kenne Bell. THe 94-95 Mustang blower should work, but from the measurements I have taken and words from Matt Harwood, it seems as though you will need to "message" your dash (with a hammer) to clear the inlet to the blower.

Never really thought about the lengths and s/c's cause well i've done lil research in s/c's cause i doubt i'll ever have one. Although you do bring a good point up about the lengths

Hey Todd it is cool i am a master at massaging with hammers, sawzalls, and bigger hammers. lol. how much clearance would have to be gained by your measurements? any special situation someone would run into if they did try to make the clearance for one to fit in there? 347 swap will be in the works within the next year and i want to see what i will be dealing with. though by that time i will already have my powerdyne xb-1a s/c i would still want to sell it to get a K B s/c twin screw for more power throughout the powerband. so when i put the new engine in it would be a fairly simple thing to just replace the front accessories with those of a mustang. the only really PITA issue is replacing the fan with an electric one that would be able to cool the horsepower generated under that hood.

From what I have seen, the only real PITA would be the conversion of the crank trigger wheel to the SN95 crank pulley. This is for the DIS, which was not on the SN95.

As far as the fan goes, the SN95 accessory drive and the engine driven fan should fit fine. It will be close, but remember, the SN95 is between 1/2" and 3/4" longer than the Explorer. There is 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" between Explorer fan and radiator. The Powerdyne spaces the fan forward and adds a second belt in, so it should be simmilar fan spacing on either.

For the dash panel messaging, I am not 100% sure, but it seems like an area 4" tall x 6-8" wide x up to 1" deep. I reallt won't know until I dive in and by the blower. Hopefully be Christmas I will have the SN95 parts and the damper modified. Then, early next year I will be ready for the blower.

Does anyone know where i can get the 5.0L 94-95 mustang engine for cheap?

Online?

Junk yard?

I need to get started on this engine so i would appriciate any help i could get...
