4:56 gears help

ok i have a 2wd 1997 explorer xlt and i am putting 35's on it. will these gears fit on my truck http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-...019QQitemZ290209817091QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
and any other help or advice about this would be great!

If they are for an 8.8 then yes they will fit. you will also need a master rebuild kit for the 8.8 If you havent set up gears before i would take it to a good shop to have them do it.

I would go 4.88 gears with 35s.

2WD/4x4 doesn't matter, you'll still be turning the same RPMs on the highway (4.56 tends to dog out a bit in overdrive with 35s)

Is your transmission going bad? It should have overdrive -- both the automatics and manuals had OD in your year.

Well overdrive is kind of separate from what you see on the dash -- just like 3rd, 4th and 5th gear is not really on there either. You do have overdrive.

On 35's I'd go with 4.88's. I'm on 33's with 4.56's and I wouldn't want to go any bigger with tires with these gears..
