4.88 in a d35?

I never had the Truetrac, I just always wanted it. ;)
I had the TracLok up front, that Maniak now has. I bought it in 1996, for right around 200.
That Aussie is a good deal, just be sure you want a locker.

well i really dont want to run just one tire locked and really want to be able to steer but for that price i might as well just get the aussie.i mean how hard is the steering after a locker?how much steering is lost?

my mistake, too many margaritastonight.

justdifferntials tends to have gears in stock when no one else does.

I have a set of the Nitro 4.88's sitting in a box waiting to go into my Ex. I found JD's parts (justdifferentials.com) 6 months ago and was never so happy. I can't wait to get them installed. Last I checked they had LOTS (like more than 50) sets of 4.88 and 5.13 for our Dana 35.

check out Eric too.. EricAutopart.. I've bought stuff from him.. and have gotten good prices.. I have a few sets of bearings.. and a pair of axles for an f-150 from him already.

do you think it would be a bad idea to install gears in my rear and not do the whole master install kit like bearings and all that?the reason i ask is because im plan on getting a 2nd gen rear end but would like to get my gears done as soon as possible and dont want to have to buy 2 install kits for the rear.but might just have to suck it up and wait till i get the new rear end!!

I assume you are getting a new 8.8 for the disc brakes? You really should wait until you get your new rear end. It would be a LOT of work for nothing to swap the gears in and then have to do another swap. You may be able to use the new bearings with the install kit you have now but you would have to at least get new seals for the next one.

How long before you get your new rear end?

yep i hate these drum brakes, but when i get the new rear im going to do it all new like brake rotors, ebrake, seals, bearings all that crap so its not going to be a cheap swap.also add in the gears and lockers front and rear and its getting pricey.i was thinking about just doing the front gears and locker since im redoing the whole front end now and all that crap is out of the truck.was going to just do gears in the rear with an extra clutch disc so i can take it out to the big dogs event in sep http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=250547 , then do the new rear with all the extras and a locker after.im in the middle of my 3rd motor build, front end rebuild and gear swap and paying the ER for the wreck i was just in, so money is VERY tight right now:help:im just going to have to wait on the gears and rear end till after sep and try and run my 3.73 with my friends 35x14.50 hahah

finally about to buy gear and was going with the motive but they have 2 listed one just as motive and one thats motive performance anyone know the difference?like whats the difference besides one is a performance one?

BE PATIENT!!!

Make sure you have done all the research you possibly can for doing an install. There is tons of info on here and online in general.

Make sure you have ALL the proper tools to get the job done.

Don't bolt the thing back up until you are 110% satisfied with the pattern and measurements you are getting.

It can be a GIANT PITA the first time but just keep pushing forward and you'll get it.

You don't want to do it wrong and trash your rear end...

o yea ive got books, movies and a friend that said he will do it for a $100 but i want to learn so hes helping.ive done rear ends before just not so big off gears and never a aussie.im getting a 2nd gen rear end to put them in so there will be no rush.how do you like your 4.88s?we will have the same setup soon, but my will be locked:D ive got 33x12.50 on it right now but i have 35s that will be going on soon after.im hoping that it will make a huge difference in power and take off:dunno:its fast now but really lags out the hole:thumbdwn:
