4 wheel drive help!

[1994 Explorer]

:exp:I'm new to the site and also new to the explorer world. I recently purchased a 94 explorer and the push button 4 wheel drive doesn't work. It says that it's on on the dash and I've checked the 20 amp fuse but it won't engage. Can someone out there lead me in the right direction on what to look for? Any help would be appreciated.

There are basically two parts to getting 4wd to engage: the transfer case has to engage and the hubs have to engage. Both have proven to be problematic on these, so my 1st question for you is: which is/is not engaging?

If the 4x4 light comes on, that usually means the transfer case has engaged, but you should probably verify that.
