4D 2wd Ford Explorer to 4x4 conversion

I’m looking into making my old Explorer into a 4x4. I found a 93’ Ford Ranger 4x4 extended cab with all the parts and a low mileage transmission. Can I use the drivetrain from the Ranger on my Explorer, and if so, what else would I need to make the swap work?

Does the Ranger have the 4.0 engine? If so, yes. Everything will be same as 93 Explorer, except the rear driveshaft length.

It is indeed a 4.0, thank you tons!! I had heard that they were basically interchangeable but wanted to be sure before I spend $500 on a truck that has a torn apart motor.

Huntsville Arkansas is a small town but I love it here, if you ever go through North West Arkansas you should drive through!!
