I bought a refurbished valve body off of ebay with all the recommended upgrades.

I installed it yesterday and now it has no drive gear and mostly no reverse. Reverse is very delayed but when it does engage it shutters very badly like it's running out of gas and will not pull under a load

I double checked the manual valve before I buttoned everything up and it's where it is supposed to be.

It will engage into 2nd and 1st no problem.

Please help.

Install a 0-300 psi gauge in the pressure test port (driver side just above oil pan gasket) and check to see if within specs.
How was the transmission performing before your "upgrade"?

Some flaring between 2nd and 3rd. Slow to engage into reverse or drive. Hard shifting.

I dont currently have a pressure gauge but I'll try to get one tomorrow

I assume you installed the valve body correctly, and torqued all the bolts to factory specs. You payed close attention to the gaskets to make sure they are correct, and carefully replaced any checkballs. If there is at any point you feel you may have error in the install, your going to have to remove the valve body and reinstall correctly. However, if you are confident you installed it correctly, then return the "e-bay" valve body for a refund and get a valve body from a reputable supplier. While your at it, this would be a good time to upgrade the reverse servo also.

Ok I'm pretty confident everything was installed correctly and everything was torqued to spec.

What is the reverse servo upgrade? Just replacing the o rings for d rings?

Looking back on my install...when I removed the reverse servo cover the reverse servo came out with it...meaning gravity did not allow it to stay in there. I simply pushed it back into the bore upon reinstalling everything. Is there a certain way it should have been installed...or maybe the o rings are worn too bad and it shouldn't have came out on own?

Yea, that is worn, and will defiantly leak fluid past the seals, pin bore wears out too. there are update kits to fix this problem without removing the transmission.

Update: I checked the bore for the reverse servo and it appeared to have minimal wear. I replaced the o rings on the servo.

I returned the "ebay" valve body and ordered a remanufactured valve body from a more legit company.

Happy to to report that all transmission issues appear to be fixed at this point.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Great!!:)

Good to hear about your success!!!

well done thanks for coming back and posting the fix
4r55e is a complex unit and the valve body install MUST be done perfectly to avoid leaks
