all i can tell you is that when i rebuilt my 4r55e i got a vb from a tranny shop and it was labeled 5r55e and i questioned them on it and they told me it was exactually the same. so i bolted it up no probs yet. just my info that i know.
According to this thread, the order of the solenoids is the same: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107963&highlight=4r55e+valve+body. This makes me wonder if the 4R will act like a 5R with a different computer controlling it. I know that the 5R has more updates. What if a 5R has a 4R computer? Will it lose it's 5th gear? The valve body is the main control which utilizes the signals coming from the PCM controlling the solenoids.
