4r55e to 5r55e swap?

I've heard that the only difference between the two is that the 5r's extra gear is made by engauging the OD and another gear. So my question is can a 5r be swapped in for a 4r55e transmission and retain the same computer control for 4 gears?

I ask because it seems like there are more 5r's out there on ebay, rebuild shops than the 4r transmission.

No, there are different values in the PCM programming for the 5r55e along with a different wiring harness. Now if you were to get a completely new harness, computer and 5r55e then it may be possible but that would well outweight the price of getting your 4r55e rebuilt.
