I plan on doing a pan drop and filter change today and I bought a replacement filter from NAPA and I noticed that there is no bolt or anything to hold the filter to the transmission. I did this same service on my 1993 a year ago and there was a 10mm bolt to hold it to the transmission.

Am I missing something or is there really no bolt?

Not all vehicals are alike. NO bolt no problem just one less bolt to put back in.

No bolt. The filter I got at NAPA looks physically identical to the OE unit, it just makes me nervous that there is no bolt holding that in there.

The 4R70W doesn't have a bolt to secure it. Just slide it up into the valvebody and you're done! :)

I too was surprised when there wasn't a bolt, it is just held in by the pan. (and somewhat by the "O" ring.

Watch out for the "lolli-pop" thingy that is in the pan, scared the bageebies out of me the first time I changed the fluid. It is put in the dipstick tube during production then pushed down into the pan during assemble.

I also freaked at the lollipop thing in there. I took my brother's Explorer up to the dealer and asked them what it was. Luckily, they told me the same thing that it was in the dipstick for shipping.

Oh, and no problems with the filter, shifts great.

When you remove the old filter, watch for the seal to stay in the hole in the valve body. Use a 3/8 drive extension to pry it out, as a screwdriver can scratch the bore.
