1997 Mercury Mountaineer
Hi, my name is Ricky and I am new to this forum. I have a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer and the transmission went out about a year ago. I purchased another transmission and installed it, but the new transmission is having the same issue as the old one. Both have reverse, but no forward gears. The transmission that I bought came out of a running Mountaineer and was doing just fine, shifted perfect, put it in mine and got the same problem over again. Would this have anything to do with the ECM having stores codes from the previous transmission failing and not allowing it to go in to gear or would I have another issue that I am just overlooking. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!:exp:

Thanks, I will try that and see what happens, and I will let you know how it goes.

MPLS / linkage adjustment...

Where do you live at?

Would you sell your spare transmission?

Ryan

I live in Lake Toxaway, NC. I don't know if the tranny would be any good or not as it has been rebuilt one time before about 3 years ago.

When you say "MPLS / linkage adjustment" What exactly is that. never even heard of it.

We are leaning towards the computer being stuck in fault mode.... any suggestions?

Ok, we did find that the range sensor was out of adjustment. We adjusted it back to were it was suppose to be and got better results, how ever it still don't want to quite take gear.

Fluid level? Are you checking your trans fluid with the vehicle in Park/Neutral, on level ground, and fully warmed up?

Yes, I let the truck sit and run for 15 min. before I checked the fluid. The fluid level is full.
