i like low range for the mountains

i like high range for winter driveing

I WANT 2WD FOR NORMAL DRIVEING [not on command or stabilink or control trak or any other of the options i am finding]

is there a company out there that makes it possible to disconnect the on-demand 4wd system of the newer explorers ??

i am haveing so much fun with my 91 i am thinking of getting a newer model with the v8 engine and yes i am at the age that i want to be able to smoke the rear tires [or put it into a powerslide] all kinds of stupid things that make driveing a rear wheel drive so much fun

help please

thanks in advance

The V8s are either 2wd or AWD, no control trac or 4WD.

my 02 has auto 4x4 , low or high. I push the button if I want auto 4wd. Its 4.0.

I'm sorry, I was only thinking 2nd gen explorers.

ok so maybe i am still asleep here

does this mean that the 02 and newer explorers have a 2wd option ??
even if its the sohc 6 cylinder [4.0]??

i just went to the ford site for 2005 [AND THERE IS A BUTTON TO TURN THE COMPUTER CONTROLED 4WD CRAP OFF] please tell me there is one on the 02 also ?? or if there is one on the older v8 ?? or even the sohc 6 ??

and a further question .. i believe the mountaineers and the eddie baur edition are awd .. but is there a v8 option that at least includes low range ??

i indeed want the best of all worlds [just need to figure out if i can do it with my income level]

2wd
4wd high range
4wd low range
looking and thinking

thanks again for the help

No newer Explorer has a true 2WD option unless you go snipping wires. V6s('97 and up) has the Control Trac which gave 4AUTO, 4HI, and 4LO. '95-'96 had 2WD, 4AUTO, 4LO, no 4HI. '96-'01 V8s had AWD. Fulltime, no low range. Early '02s only had the Control Trac(4AUTO, 4HI, and 4LO). It then became an option for V6s and V8s for the Control Trac or AWD. And '02+ Mountaineers only have the AWD. Anymore questions, just ask!
