Second post, new topic - I've noticed that when I turn the key in my '97, the bulb check shows lamps for 4WD and 4WD LOW. When I turn the selector from AUTO to 4WD, the 4WD lamp comes on. But when I turn to 4WD LOW, the 4WD lamp stays lit, and the 4WD LOW lamp does not illuminate. This doesn't seem normal to me. Do I have to allow the truck to move itself forward or backward to get it into LOW, or is there something at the transfer case I need to look at? This truck is not likely to become a heavy-duty off-road rig or anything like that, but if we need to get to work with snow on the ground, I'd like to have ALL of the transfer case available. Any/all input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance - Chris:us:

Did you come to a complete stop, turn it to 4Low and then put it in neutral/ press brake?

Might have to tap the brake a couple times. There is a sort of song and dance to it.

Thanks again, Robman. Dang! I did NOT put my right foot in, out, in and shake it all about, yet - we're still way early in the learning curve on this truck, and just like with our '08 Wrangler, we're having to wing it without owner's manuals so far. We'll probably try it that way tomorrow afternoon, with your printed instructions in hand! I'll post results as they become available. 'Til then,... Chris:us:

Robman, you're a genius! A little brake, a little coast and voila! Did the dance a few times in the driveway, just to make sure, and it never failed. Thanks for the help. - Chris:us:

haha nah, there's much smarter folk on here than myself, I have owned a few Explorers though.
I hope yours is good to you and that you enjoy it, pretty good all around vehicles.
