Hey all,
My 96 XLT has 56,000 miles on it. Today I switched over from 2wd to 4wd and all was well. Then to 4wd low and now the tranny is engaged in 4wd low and won't disengage.
Does anybody have any ideas what might be wrong and how much it will cost?
Thanks,
Paul

Did you have it in neutral and the brake applied when taking it out of 4lo. You have to repeat the procedure to get in to get out of it. If so, try disconnecting your battery for 5 minutes. Sometimes the T/F case motor forgets where it is and needs to relearn. If that doesn't work, try hitting the case with a rubber mallet.

Yes, just as he has said the brake MUST BE pressed FIRMLY down and the Clutch Must be DEPRESSED for the t-caes to disengage in my 91 5 speed. and if that dose not work try backing up a little and repeating the steps above. Sorry about that, i have never heard of that ever happenig, it seems realy strange!!!??

you might check your fuse panel under the hood if you blew your electronic shift fuse while in 4wd it won't disengage.
