4wd problem

i got a 92 explorer with warn manual hubs. when i engage 4wd it seems the passenger side is slipping in and oout of 4wd. i get like a chattering clunking noise. i have cleaned the hub and greased it lightly. the hub engages but seems to let go under load. any suggestions. i really want it sort out coming on winter and all. looking for all suggestions. thanks

Did you just install these hubs? Or have they been on for a while?

Also if you didn't do them yourself, are you sure the install kit was used properly when they were done. Sounds like a spacer could be missing.
 






no they have been there for awhile.
 






As one side is working and the other isn't, I would suggest taking them apart and comparing what you have on the working side to the not working side. If something is missing you will find out what it is that way.

Also, the drivers side is the main drive wheel on these diffs, so it is the one under the most load.
 






thanks , i will do that and see,also, can i simply swap them out and see if the problem switches sides?
