Dont know if this is the right spot to ask this?My 99 Explorer just started blinking the dash lights 4-6 times and stops for a few min. and then does it again.Could this be a code for something?

What he means is to suggest getting the DTC codes read. But the short answer is yes.... something is amiss and the vehicle is trying to tell you something. I do not know if that sequence of flashes standing alone means anything (others here might), but the computer should be storing diagnostic trouble codes (DTS's) that can be read.

Thanks guys I'll go get her plugged in.

AutoZone will not be able to scan the GEM DTCs. You'll need a shop that can connect an NGS test unit to the system to scan the GEM DTCs. The standard OBD-2 scanners can only communicate with the ECU/PCM.

The most common cause of the blinking lights is a bad sensor on the t-case, but it could be any part of the system that's failed, from the switch to the relay to the GEM itself. The only way to know for sure is to scan the codes.

I haven't ever seen anything (either in the Service Manual or on the forum) that relates the flashing of the 4wd lights to any particular issue (e.g. five blinks = bad shift motor) The owner's manual just says there is a problem with the 4wd system. The service manual says that a DTC has been stored in the GEM. My 97 manual has a chart of the DTCs related to the Transfer Case:
