also my windows have stopped working, could this be related?
Please help i hope to drive 400 miles on monday :-(

Sounds like something with your 4 wheel drive. Were you using the 4 wheel drive when this occured. Mine just did the same thing, and i ended up having to get the 4x4 motor replaced. ($100 from a wreck, like $325 from the dealer)

Before you do anything else, disconnect your negative battery cable for a few hours and then reconnect. Start the truck and see what happens.

If it does it again then start looking deeper.

I believe it has something to do with the connections to the transfer case. I have a manual transfer case in my 97 and it flashes 6 times as well.

Same thing happen to my 98X, first tried disconecting battery about 30 min. flash was gone for about six weeks, 4WD lights came flashing , this time i took it in to shop, it turn out to be the sensors on the transfer case, had both sensors replaced.
Two years now with no problems.
Hope this helps

As others said, a faulty speed sensor will cause your 4x4 lights to flash. However, the common item between your power windows and 4x4 is the GEM. It's possible that you have a fault in your GEM. Did both problems show up at the same time?

the whole problem was because of a sticky window switch.......it blew a fuse and the 4X4 system runs from the same one.....funny hey!

but its cool now :-)
