It snowed last night, maybe an inch or so.
Dealer tells me at 7:00am that these trucks are on 4 wheel drive all the time.
I ask why it doesnt seem like it and why theres a 4x4 auto button then. Dealer says you dont have to hit that button.
The 'quick reference guide' in manual describes what is supposed to happen when you do hit that button. Trucks been driving like a two wheel drive and now that its winter you hit the button and nothing really happens. No indicator light and truck drives exactly the same. Sooooooo whys the button there and how can we be sure its in 4 wheel drive after hitting it when the truck drives the same?

4xauto

You're all good! The 4xauto is to take the vehicle out of 4xlo or 4xhi... 4xauto is the normal position, and it is in 4x when you get in the vehicle. You don't see any indicator from that button, but that's normal...

Do they look like this?

4x4 auto is the stock mode on explorer sport tracs and it was on my 97 sport too. The auto works like this. The truck feels one or both of the rears start to slip so it engages the front tires. So its only 4x4 when you need it on auto unless ofcourse you manually select 4x4 hi or lo
