Hey ya'll I got a quest. bout the 96, its got 2WD, 4X4 auto, 4X4 low. I like the auto part for the fiance for when shes driving it in the winter it'll kick in but when we had it back in the field playing in 4 high it felt like it kept kicking in and out and I know that can't be good for the transfercase, there any mod for it so I can switch it to be fulltime 4X4 high when I want and a way of making it 4X4 high auto when we aren't driving it offroad much?

i jsut went and checked mine... no way! it is 2wd, 4auto and 4lo... i do have control trac

haha, all this time i thought it was 2wd,4x4hi and 4lo

wow.. all this time and ya didn't know it lol

thought it was hi... as my 94 had.... but my 94 had a bw1354e

i actually jsut got this truck, its been in the family for awhile, but up until this month it was my parents vehicle

oh..ok, so you know if there is a way to mod it to switch between the auto setting and between making it fulltime or am I just going to have to put up with it like that?

i dont think there is a way to bmod it, you might try to look a member on here named glacier he knows about that stuff

Alright, I'll have to try and ask him tonite but gotta go clean a room to get ready for paintin and stuff.

Can you add 4high to a 95 or 96? Yup. Piece of cake. Look at the top of the transmissions and transfer cases section for the Comprehensive Brown Wire Mod Thread. Piece of cake. :)

oh... so thats the brown wire mod....

Cool, I thought the brown wire mod only reffered to the 98-01's to shut off the auto setting so that u only ran in 2wd

after thinking about it more, i think gijoecam is wrong.....

the brown wire mod is so people with the later tcases that only have an option for 4x4 auto and 4lo can turn off the auto and run 4x2 mode

the brown wire mod does not work to turn a control trac 4x4 into having auto4x4 be 4x4hi

Idk....going to have to look at the thread here in an hour or so...but yeah I thought it was to turn the "auto" setting off in the ones that had the settings (auto,4hi,4lo) But I'll look, I'd like to make it fulltime when off roading I hate it kicking in and out.

I think what gijoecam meant is that, if you read the BWM all the way through, you should have enough knowledge to the opposite. In other words, you should know how to force the transfer case to go into 4HI mode.

I have done the brown wire mod on my 96...it took me 20 minutes to wire up...and it works great.

I just read about that, and it don't look like anything that would be complicating, I look forward to doing it, I've only driven it this weekend and took it through the field and through other parts and with the way it clunks and jerks, I'm afraid of the gears stripping in the transfercase or something, plus its nice to be completely locked in at times.
