4X4 auto to fulltime?

Yes the brown wire mod will work on your 96. 4 Auto is better for the t-case than 4 Hi.... Might not be better for the clutch pack but thats not the weak point in this case....

Get a SPDT center off switch, its covered in one of the brown wire threads. This gives you 4 hi, 4 auto, and 2 low. I find myself using 2 low more than any other mode offroad in the mountains around here. That way I am always just idling, 3rd gear for the smooth parts, 2nd for most parts, and 1st for the sketchy parts of the trail (I do have a 5 spd)....

i 2nd that approach i use 2-lo alot to especially on tight turns on trails that 4-lo wouldn't like to much.

I like the 2 low in my 92 but thats easy since I have lockout hubs

Yeah, I read the how-to part of it earlier, thanks for the direct link tho, I'm gunna want to do it under the seat. She wants it to look good and to her toggle switches on the dash isn't her idea of looking good.

Indeed, as already mentioned, the 'traditional' brown wire mod that started the craze involved cutting power to the t-case to provide the 97-01 trucks with 2wd. However, when I was researching the BWM for the comprehensive write-up, I discovered through my own trial and error that it's possible to send power TO the t-case on the 95-96 models to lock the t-case in full-time, thereby providing them with a true locked-case 4wd.

All the info you should need is in the Comprehensive BWM thread listed above. :)

One question for you gijoecam is, is the fulltime actually going to hurt the t-case when it is engaged?

I'm not a control system engineer for Ford or Borg-Warner, and I don't play one on TV.

To my knowledge, no.

However, the potential for damage exists anytime you utilize an item in a way it was not designed. Perform this mod at your own risk.

That being said, there have been more than a few members of this board I know have done it. I have yet to hear of any issues caused by it. That doesn't mean that it's 100% t-case friendly, but if it's not, I have seen no evidence of it.

Yeah, I knew you weren't a Ford technician but didn't know if you had come across cases of people saying the t-case messed up, I don't see why it would...thats why I asked your opinion since you did a write up on it.

I haven't personally heard of anyone that's done it having any long-term issues tied to it. That doesn't mean that there aren't any out there, just none I've heard of on these boards. I would think that if they got the idea from these boards and had an issue, we would've heard about it here.

Give it a shot and let us know! :)

Yup, thats what I'm gunna do, goin to probably have to wait til this weekend to do it, But I'll post to if it worked properly after doing it.

That SPDT On-On switch, that can be found at Wal-Mart? I'm might be up around that area tomorrow, so I wanna know so I can stop in if thats where I can get one.

Wally World will probably have an on-off-on switch... it'll work (that's what I used). Boat US and West Marine have Carling switches in stock (under a different name in a yellow blister-pack) and I'm a huge fan of Carling's Contura V series switches. They're rugged and durable, and look great too.

If you're getting power straight from the battery, I wouldnt use the SPDT switch to drive the transfer case directly .. I'd use a fuse+switch+relay combo. But I'm just picky (if it were my world, I'd fuse a fuse for a fuse  ).

gijoecam's idea (using a marine boat terminal switch) would work as those things are rated for a lot more amps.

I just want to do like the mod suggests, run a hot 12v wire spliced into cigg. lighter to the toggle switch, and I did figure on running a fuse relay or see if they make real small breaker switches to run through to help insure I dont short out any wires. or burn anything else up. I still want the ability to have the 4X4 auto for when she's driving on wet roads, she almost spun us around the ring already, its good to have that! lol

Well....if the truck come out of the shop soon enough today I'm going to attempt it, it went into the shop because of a shackle i didn't notice it was rusted through or just that offroading we did knocked the rust out of the shackle to be thin but its under warranty so we had them do it. But I'm going to try this today hopefully, I got a SEASENSE brand ON/OFF/ON Toggle switch out of the fishing section at k-mart its an illuminated one and has 3 prongs in which 3 are to use and the one is for the light ground.

well...didn't get it done yesterday....started tearin down, got a quest tho so I don't screw this up or blow any fuses, but on the toggle switch this is what the box reads for the tongs or w/e you wanna call them, 1-Switched Positive Load, 2-Battery Positive (ACC+), 3-Switched Positive Load, 5-Internal Light Ground. there is only 4 of em and they're off numbered, this is on-off-on switch, could someone tell me which wires go where? Thanks!

BuMp, its getting warmer out, and just got home from army surplus so I'm ready to start on this thing again. Just tell me which wires connect where and I be happy, gonna soon start on takin the seat out and riggin a hot wire up to the accessory outlet.

Ok, Nvm I gott'r Done!! YAY!! I love it already, I took'er for a spin and no clunkin and carryin on **** anymore! :)
