4x4 conversion

Hi everyone. new to the forum. I recently picked up a 2wd 98 mountaineer w/ a 5.0. I am curious to know if anyone has any info on converting to 4x4. i have had a couple of rangers in the past and would like to stay away from the electric shift transfer case if at all possible. I am also running an auto trans. so any info on transfer cases?

you would need to convert or replace your auto trans with one from a 4x4 truck, the tailhousings and output shafts are different

then your transfer case choices are basically the AWD 5.0L Explorer unit or the F-150 4406 manual shift (since you dont want push button)

Now you have to convert the front 2wd suspension to the 4x4 supension and diff, or go with a solid axle.

its easier and cheaper to sell yours and buy a AWD version
