I have a ExplorerV6 1997-00 model and would like to disable the 4X4 when in low for manovering on hard surfaces.
I have don it to my 2000 F350 and would like to do the same on the Explorer.
Has anyone done this mod?

I am learning this site and logged a querie instead of personal info.Found the site by google and working through the information supplied. I have a machinery workshop for repair of vehicles and agricultural machinery. We are situated out in the "bush" and repair most anything. I have built two experimental aircraft and am an ex farmer.
Looking through the article on rebuilding of the transfer case motor it looks like what I want to do is impossible as the system has to pass through the 4x4 to get to low range.
Regards
Ron

Welcome to the site. This is a fairly common mod you can find info on by searching "brown wire mod" Basically there is a harness near the drivers seat with a thick brown wire. This wire controls the power to the transfer case electromagnetic clutch. Put a switch on this wire and you have 2 low.
