4x4 HI vs AWD

not really a new member, but a rookie question. is using 4x4 HI the same as the trucks that have AWD? i'm guessing not. but what's the difference?
 






4Hi = power split equally between front and rear axles at all times
AWD = power split varies between front and rear axles, depending on which end is getting the slippage/if there is any slippage
although I think part of that also depends on the AWD system being used.
 






Ditto, the AWD acts like a differential in the center, adjusting for speed difference while turning.

The 4WD cannot be used in dry conditions(street) because the front and rear driveshaft speeds are locked together at the same speed. 4WD will work in a straight line, do not turn the wheel in high traction conditions. Good luck,
