I have a 97 explorer xlt 4x4 and I was wondering whats the max speed in 4x4 high its snowing pretty good up here in north idaho the thing handles like a sport car in the snow i love it :burnout:

"55mph" is the spec max in the owners' manual.

I've had my 3rd gen in 4H up to 65 mph and it didn't really want to get past that. Didn't feel like a limiter, jut more like the gears were running out. I was only in 4th gear though... Owners manual says not to use 4x4 in 5th gear, but I haven't needed 4x4 since that one time.

From someone who has lived in the snow belt their entire life...if conditions are such that you need 4x4 High, for safety reasons you really have no business going faster than 55 mph, anyway IMO. Glad you're enjoying your Explorer in the snow...but, don't become overly confident on snowy/icy roads. Seems around here if there is a vehicle in the ditch on it's side along a highway, it's usually an SUV because their owners had a false sense of security about their ability to maintain control in wintry conditions.
