99 MPH ? Consider it a safety feature intended for those who dont know any better.

All explorers I know about are limited to about 160 km/h or 100mph. The only way to remove it is to have the vehicle programed and have the speed limiter removed.

I think it's limited to 103mph. Get a programmer to disable it. You're not the first person to hit the speed limiter.

Yeah, when that bugatti Veyron flies by you on the autobahn; your explorer is not that vehicle that you'd want to try to pull up on him. Trust me.

Topgun quote (or mis-quote as it may be):
"Your mind is writing checks your car can't cash."

However, if you run into a string of speed bumps, you might be able to catch up to him there.

The speed limiter is there so that the EMS people can recognize that you were once a human and not a bag of meat from the grocery store when you roll it into a ball on the interstate.

It's a public service. :D

been there, done that

Ummm, yeah. Unless you've lowered it, and made some handling improvements, just leave it alone.
Well, unless you're talking about a long stretch on a dead straight, flat-level road, w/ excellent pavement,etc.... Then, maybe I could see going a little faster, but still not a good idea.

yeah, you'd have to modify it enough that it would be no good as a truck any more. The suspension be no good for off-road use, etc, etc, etc.

At that speed, all it takes is a strong gust of wind, and some over correction on his part and he'll have to rename his truck to "flipper" (if he makes it out alive).

I can't imagine anything that might warrant driving that fast. If only half of that speed is enough to put your life in danger. GEEZ

ok ok .. i was just asking how they limit the speed... u frightened me people hahaha

Jesus Tim.

i took that pic when i was headed to corkey's place to drop him some parts. when i took that pic, i thought i was doing 150km's, NOT 170km's! when i showed pete that pic on my camera, he was the one that corrected me (first thought that went through my head was oops). i will never do that again in a explorer, that is for sure!

He had a burger in the other hand too- very impressive! :D

Chocodile :D

A few years back Montana had no posted speed limits. I didn't know the law read "resonable and prudent". Heading back home after visiting my sister, I could see no traffic for 1+ miles and since I was going downhill for a ways I took it past 100. I know it was 100+ because that is what the trooper told me. Two highway patrol cars were sitting next to each other a little ways off the freeway. I saw them and thought it was pretty cool going this fast past them with no worries. It was amazing how fast one of them got behind me. He told me the rules and how out of staters thought it was the Autobahn, told me to slow it down then let me go. I used up alot of luck on that one.
