4x4 hub noise.

Hello all,

Just wondering if any one knows why I'm getting a slight squealing/rubbing type sound from my front hub(s) on occasion? It's noticable at slow parking lot speeds, as best I can tell from the drivers side. I think the vehicle could use a break job but there's pleanty there so I don't think it's the braking system because there would be a constant scraping/grinding, indicator sound if it were right? Is there a fix that doesn't involve major investment? Thanks

sounds like a worn out bearing...ill let someone who is more familiar with the new models chime in though.

what was it? mine does this on occasion, seems to go away now and then. i suspected front axle or front drive shaft.

I just fixed a similar noise on our Subaru Forester. Squeaky creaky rubbing noise at very low speed, speeds up with road speed? Like a thwop-thwop-thwop, not a click-click-click? Doesn't change when you get on and off the brakes? Maybe gets worse or goes away when you turn the wheel one direction? In my case it was a front wheel bearing that had gone bad and spun inside the hub. I ended up having to replace the half-shaft, the bearing, and the hub (which on a Subaru is a $150 part).

Hub wheel bearing noise/vibration

Wheel bearing noise can be difficult to confirm.I had no play, the noise was constant and only got louder over time. First noticed noise at about 45,000 miles, sounded like a tire noise.I finally had bearings replaced at 52,000. Quiet now. I noticed immediately that while driving with the new hubs/bearings i can now hear the normal tire noise that changes when the road surface changes, (asphalt to concrete), with bad bearings,the noise was constant on all surfaces, wet or drive. Hubs/bearings are covered on 2007 models for 5yr/60,000 miles.
