I used to only notice mine during very cold weather. Then as it got warmer this spring I only noticed it sometimes. But now it is pretty much all the time. I would not be surprised if your issue came back this fall, winter.

Disconnected negative battery cable and it did not fix the problem. will check fuses next.

This happened to me once. I put it in 4x4 high, stopped and put in 4x4 low drove about 50' then went back to 4x4 high and then 4x4 auto and the light went off and never came back.

4x4 engage when slow turn

Hello gang! i have this problem too, it seems like the front drive train get stuck in 4x4 when i slow turn, i clean the transfert plug wires and put dielectric grease on it but it seems not to be the problem, so i've disconnect the control module and get it 2x4, will check for putting a ground wire on the transfer case soon, and reconnect module, but i heard from someone that there's a solenoid under the battery case that can be the cause of this problem in north-east climate, did you ear something on that?

Hi,
I have an Explorer Limited year 2000 and I had the same problem. I resolved by disconnecting the negative wire of the battery for 10 minutes.

Hi,

At random time, the '4x4 High' light flashes 9 times every 2 minutes. The 4x4 low and high is working good when it is not flashing.
I went to Autozone to have them plug to read the code but they told me their reader doesn't work for this kind of issue.

I changed the 4x4 module a year ago because the 4x4 was not working so I don't think this is the problem.

I am surprise I can't find description of this 'code' anywhere...
Anybody has the same issue ?

Thanks,
Remi.

I had the same problem. Replace rear abs sensor ontop of rear differential. Easy fix
