4x4 messed up?

so i just bought a 97 explorer as a daily and today when i was in 4x4 just driving and went to turn to park the truck just kinda stops as if somethings holding it back and makes a wierd noise...doesnt sound healthy?

Is it full time(AWD) or part time 4wd? If it's part time 4wd like I suspect(you turn it on with a button) maybe you're driving it on dry pavement which is bad for the vehicle. Wet surfaces only. If it is dry it will make popping and snapping sounds.
