4x4 not engaging

My 93 explorer EB is not going into 4x4. I can here the control ticking in the back of my truck but it does not lock in. Does anyone know what this could be?

A few ideas of what it "could" be, but you'll need to give more information to help narrow it down.

Two common trouble spots on these: The transfer case shift motor and the auto hubs. So the first thing to determine is if the problem is in the transfer case (status of indicator lights?, Is the t-case powering the front drivetrain?) or in the hubs.

The indicator lights do not come on when i push the button but will come on by them selves if i am park with the engine running for about thirty mins.
