94 explorer 4 wheel
:hammer:a few days ago, I tried to put my explorer in 4 wheel hi. for the first time this year. it didn't seem to work.so yesterday. I jack it up, both sides where off the ground. I tried to turn the front drive shaft, to see if my auto hubs where locking in or not. I could not turn the drive shaft more than an 1/8 of a turn. you think this is a bearing problem or another problem.

Do you have push button or manual 4x4? Assuming push button, did the lights come on in the dash and it just didnt feel like it went in? If you have enough stands, jack your explorer up and support it with all four wheels off the ground. Then start it and run it idling in low first. See if your front driveshaft is turning, and see if the axleshafts are turning.

that seams like a good idea. i'll check it out next weekend. this my main transport. it drives 75 miles a day at the min.

If you tried to turn the front driveshaft by hand while the T-case is engaged in 4WD... it's not going to turn. Put the t-case in neutral and try again (set parking brake).

no the 4- wheel was not engaged. i could turn the drive shaft, but not the front axel. i tried to turn the wheels forward but they were not engaged.
