First and foremost I've been told countless times that its my t/c shifter motor. That's a simple fix but I have more questions other then that.
My explorer, A 1994, four door XLT, A4LD transmission and BW 13-54 t/c. Auto hubs. 183,x.. miles.
I read on here somewhere I cannot find the thread for it. That I should be able to turn my front drive shaft when not in 4x4. Ok, I tried several times, with my truck in neutral and shutoff in park. It will turn a little bit but then locks and won't turn much more in either direction. What's wrong with that? btw with my shifter motor not working I cannot get it into 4x4 so it was in 2wd when I tried that.
Maybe the person was talking about axle shafts?
My buddy confirmed that I should be able to turn it freely or somewhat freely when in 2wd.
Next question. When I replaced my rotors on front, Repacked the bearing and so on. I never seen any spacers that I've been told should have been there. Does my explorer need those spacers? Something to do with the auto hubs.
Also when I put the drivers side back together I had to pull it apart several times because I didn't have enough room to get the snap ring back on. Took four tries but I finally had enough room to get it on. Could there be an issue with this?
The bearings were set right in the back of the rotor with new seals on the backs also. The rotors were sitting back as far as they would go, I don't know what was keeping me from getting enough room to snap the ring back on.
To my knowledge because I've only had this explorer for under a month. The 4x4 may not have worked for some time. The last owner is not the type of person to maintain everything as it should be done.
Once I replace my shift motor should I do anything else to make sure nothing is out of place? change any fluids?
I will be flushing the radiator, dropping the transmission pan and fixing my RA bracket tomorrow. Other then that I've done everything I can think of non 4x4 related. Let me know if you guys can think of something I maybe missing.
