first id like say hello to every one. the infro i found on here has been every helpfull. but still got a problem.my dad and me have been workin on my 93 ranger 4x4. we have all ready gone though the shift motor , replacing the bushing and checking the motor it self. the motor seems to work fine.[ bench testing it] but when installed , it will not engage the 4 wheel drive. i do not get a light on the switch or the dash. sometimes i do get clicking form the module behind the seat. my dad thinks were missing some thing. we ve done most everything that was suggested on the threads. checkin wires, voltages, etc. any help would be great.

hi rick thanks for the reply. yes we can put it in 4x4 by turning the shaft. followed up with ricks reply and checked out explorerform site too. when checking the continuity on the pins , guess you should have 3 pins with continuity for 4x2 and 3 for 4x4low. i only have 2 for each. try rotating the other plate on the shift motor to try to pick up the 3rd wire , but no luck. we dont think its the motor. it doesnt move being unbolted form the transfer case and still hooked to the harness. my dad wont let me just start buying parts. he says to be a good mechinac is to track down the problem and then correct it. so im back to the begining again.

motor

the shift motor seems to run both ways when we bench tested it. i dont even get a light on the switch showing that your trying to engage the 4 wheel drive and nothing on the dash showing its in? i think the switch should show a light when you press the button whether it engages or not ? shouldnt it??

schematic

have one for the shift motor. but would like to find one for the push button switch

Not sure if this will be useful, but I found a couple of years ago that on my 95 XLT the 4x4 is subject to a vacum line. I had lost 4x4 while up hunting, and got hung up off the side of the road in the rain. A few weeks later after it dried out, and I got back home, I found a vacum line that had disconnected from that ball looking item just behind the front rt. fender area in the engine compartment. Once I reconnected the line, I had 4x4 again. Who knew????

shift controller

does any one know how to check the shift controller?weve checked everything else, motor checks out good and set in the correct spot for 2 wheel drive and in the 4 low position. even put a new dash switch in for kicks and gigles. because mine was cracked. but i guess still working because the new one didnt make a difference.
