2001 Sport Trac
I have read many threads but have found none that address my specific problem. I have a 2001 Sport Trac and my 4 wheel drive works occasionally. Sometimes when I start the truck the 4x4 dash lights come on sometimes they don't. When they do not come on the 4 wheel drive doesn't work. No click from the passenger side, nothing. When they do come on the 4x4 works perfectly, the module clicks and 4 wheel drive works. I have seen some posts that referred to changing the module and that not helping. If the lights do not come on I can pull the 4x4 fuse in the fuse panel and then the 4x4 will work. Hopefully someone else has had the same issue and they can help me out.

Thanks.

i have a 01 trac and seem to have the same problem. but what i have noticed mine always seems to stop working when it has been raining or the road is wet. kinda wondering if there may be a plug or something underneath that maybe a boot has slipped off of? otherwise i try my 4wd from time to time to see if it works and it always does, as long as its dry.

Exactly the same problem here on my '02 ST. I have not yet determined what causes the module to stop working. Have been "cycling" the power by removing the fuse to "reset" the module for some time now. Think I'm going to add an inline switch to obviate the need to pull the fuse.

i kind of have the say problem

we got snow today was driving in 4 hi with know problem

then modulr would click off then back on would be fine for a little bite

then would do it again any advise would be nice

Its just a short in the module itself. In my experence anytime moisture, when it rains especially, it will short somehow. I assume the snow is the same situation. I have yet to see if mine will work this year. but hopefully it will. lol Anytime the day is dry it kicks on no problem.
