'94 4X4 eddie
Hi, I currently own a '94 explorer eddie edition 4x4. a few years ago the auto hubs gave me a headace so bought manual locking hubs. about this time last year my dad couldnt get the 4x4 to engage (push the button in, here the relay in the back but no motor noise and no 4wd) so he looked at some forums and read that hitting it with a mallet will get it to work (witch it did). now i have the truck and the first snow just fell yesterday so i wanted to get up to the mountains and snowboard but my 4x4 wouldnt engage again. so i give the motor a little "love tap" and poof i push the button the light comes on and 4wd work like a champ. i go snowboarding for a day turning the 4x4 on and off throughout the day and when i took my buddy home i used it one last time in his driveway and asked him to check to see if my front wheels were spining (they were) so i turned it off after i got out of the driveway. as i was about ot turn into my driveway i went to put it on again and no light no nothing i cant even here the relay click i used to here. i tried tapping the motor again and nothing happend i also played with the relays a bit and still nothing ive been reading through forum after forum but still cant seem to find the answer. can someone please help. thanx in advance.

Did you check the fuse?

Look above at the 4x4 shift motor rebuild diary in the stickied threads.

well i looked up where the fuse would be in the manual and saw the 4x4 fuse in the pic in the book but when i opened the fuse box there was a diagram of what the fuses go to on the lid but no 4x4 fuse. but i went by the manuals diagram and checked the fuse it showed to be 4x4 and it was still good.

i tried

sounds like an electrical problem try the wires that engage the 4wd.

Any of you guys try reading the sticky on rebuilding the 4x4 shift motor? Or at least read part-way through it?

perhaps there is a fuse that has gone bad?

do you know where i can find a diagram?

i need one for the fuse box under the hood, not under the dash....

im having a hard time with this...

It's probably not a fuse or broken wire. 90% of the time, the switch in the shift motor has "lost" it's resting position in relation to the contacts. please read the sticky before making more guesses. Let us know what you find after checking out your shift motor, then we will know how to guide you better

I had this same problem and more, a little over 2 years ago. Through the help of this site, some really great write-ups, many with pics and all the helpful people on this site, I have a truck I'm very proud of. It's nothing fancy but it's 15 years old and everything works and works well now. If you have a question or problem, there's a good chance someone here has already solved it for you.
