4x4 switch wire is broken.

i have a 97 awd 4dr x and recently my stereo was jacked and when they jacked it they pulled a wire loose from my 4x4 switch and its the white wire with a blue stripe and i cant figure out were it goes 4x4 wont turn on or anything help plz!!!!!

Do you have a schematic to trace the wiring connections?

talk with Gijoecam, take a look at the Brown wire mod thread i bet there is a schematic there...ill look around a bit as well and see what i can dig up.

Edit: make sure you include 4wd in your search because your truck is not awd.
another idea, if you have a Junkyard near by hop in a 4wd second gen made after 96 and pull the whole switch out and re-wire yours.

I've been trying to access my schematics at work for two days now, but the system is apparently down... I won't be able to check again until Monday. Sorry for the delay...

edit: Off the top of my head, I want to say that the W/LB wire is the 4wd switch mode input to the GEM from the switch. There should be four available pins on the back side of the 4wd switch.... One is power in, one is mode out to the GEM, one is the parking lamp illumination feed, and one is a ground.... but don't quote me on that....

If it's disconnected, the 4wd lights should be blinking to indicate that the system has detected a fault with the switch (I would think).... I'll let you know as soon as I can get something on it for you.

well it dint come from out of the back of the plug like the wire was stripped from somewhere else if ya get what im sayin like someone cut it then stripped it. and thanks for the help i greatly appreciate it

Is it a White with a Lt Blue stripe wire?

The white/lt blue wire goes to the four-wheel drive selector switch, Pin #3 connector, it is the wire that goes to the common on the selector switch, the other end goes to the GEM, pin 8

well i know were it goes on the switch but when they jacked my radio they pulled it out from somewhere else like it was cut

The other end of that wire goes to pin 8 of the GEM, there's probably a whole bundle of wires that one came out of when they yanked it. You may have to run a new length of wire to the GEM

The GEM is the Generic Electronic Module.... It's the nerve center of the truck that controls the accessory controls. It's located behind the stereo on the left side of the opening. It's a large black box with three connectors on it. Unplug the two connectors on the front, remove the screw from the bottom of the unit that holds it to the side of the opening, let it drop down, and then you can access the connector on the top of it.

However, if that wire was cut, you should be seeing blinking 4x4 lights on the dash... the system should recognize that there's no switch connected and store a trouble code for it.

yea its been blinking six times then will go off i took apart what you are talkin bout before and looked to see if i could find were it might have gone or looked for the other end of the wire but couldn't

took your advice and looked at your brown wire mod gi and it helped me figure out were the wire went and i stuck it back in and what you know it works but how do i fix it fix it i just shoved the wire back in it pretty good

The proper fix would be to de-pin the connector, reinstall the pin on the end of the wire, then reinstall the pin in the connector. Not terribly difficult if you know what you're doing, but virtually impossible if you don't.
