Hey all, I know I have read about this problem on here sometime ago but I haven't been able to locate the thread. If I take a sharp turn in 2wd, I sometimes get the 4X4 trying to engage, with the axle spinning Zrrrrrrrrrrr noise. I have the touch button four wheel drive with auto hubs. Is this an electronic problem or a hub problem. Would manual hubs get rid of problem and if so, how much work are they to put on?

It's not an electronics problem, you have the infamous and highly common case of BAD AUTO HUBS!!! Best fix is to go and buy yourself a set of manual hubs and replace them. It's much cheaper and better than another set of auto hubs. A set of manual hubs will run US$150-200, and the special wrench to work on them runs about US$15. It takes about 1.5 hours to do both wheels, and can easily be done by yourself. I think if you do a search on Warn Hubs, you will find the thread you are looking for
Good Luck!!

I think it's your Explorer trying to tell you "Lets go wheeling!!!!"

My 4X4 still seems to work fine and the problem doesn't occur all the time. How much longer before they are totally N/S? And can I still drive if they go?
